Handy Information

Here are various bits of information that will be useful for conference attendees, particularly out-of-town guests. We'll keep adding more notes as we go along. (You should definitely check back here before setting off for your journey to Palmerston North.)

Child Care

As of June 2021, Massey Childcare Centre has a small number of places available for the period of the conference. If you're interested in one of these, please get in touch with Vanessa as soon as possible.

Graduate students who are worried about the cost of this service should contact us too, as there may be options to help offset the expense.

Presentation Equipment

All presentation venues are equipped with Windows computers, document projectors, overhead projectors, and sound systems. The computers have USB ports and Internet access, and have software such as MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Internet browsers installed. All rooms have whiteboards (pens will be provided).

Internet Access

If you'd like to have personal Internet access during the conference, please bring a WiFi-capable device (eg, laptop, tablet computer, smartphone). We'll provide guest access to Massey University's wifi network.

Printing

In line with Massey University's sustainability goals, we're committed to minimising avoidable resource use (eg, by not producing prints that are likely discarded very quickly afterwards).

However, if (at any point during the conference) you need to print some pages for your presentation (say, a brief handout), please feel free to approach us with your request. Ideally, you'll be able to hand us a memory stick with your documents (in PDF or MS Word format) or send us the files by email.

Keep in mind though that we'll be very busy and thus may not be able to help you right away. Thus, please make sure that you do not leave your request to the last minute. Ideally, we request that you give us your files the day before you need the prints, so we can produce them in time.

Vehicle Parking

Paid casual parking through Pay and Display is available from Monday to Friday at Orchard Road, the largest car park on campus (marked yellow in the image below). It's free to leave your vehicle there on weekends and public holidays.

(Click on image to enlarge, and then press ESC to close.)

If you require disabled parking, please contact us directly in advance and we'll organise a place close to AgHort for you.

Food

Naturally, we'll try to cater to all taste preferences, health conditions, and ethical points of view. However, if you have a rare preference/condition/view (eg, food allergy), please forgive us if we are not able to accommodate you. In such a case, please consider bringing a snack to prevent 'starvation'.

Also, students who participate in the conference should consider bringing a small storage container to take left-over foods. In line with our sustainability goals, we'd like to avoid waste of any kind.

Photos

If you're taking digital photos during the conference and would like to share them with other guests, we're happy to publish them on our website. Please email the files to Marco.

Weather

The daily mean temperature in Palmerston North during December is 16.2 °C, the average high temperature is 20.9 °C. For a current short-term weather forecast, please check MetService.
